Tropical plants in the Alocasia genus feature stunning foliage that can become the centerpiece of a garden or room. Large rhizomes or tubers produce enormous heart-shaped or arrow-shaped ears, leading to the popular common name, elephant's ear.
The Alocasia Polly, also known as the Alocasia x Amazonica and African Mask Plant is a very recognizable plant that you'll probably have seen before on social media or in gardening stores. Its large and odd-shaped leaves with bright nerves will jump out at you from a distance. Like other Alocasias, the Alocasia is a tropical plant that has very particular wishes and might not be the best plant for beginners.
• Light: Provide bright, indirect light
• Water: Water when the top few centimeters of soil feels dry
• Considerations: Use a well-draining, chunky soil mix to promote air circulation to roots. Alocasias need warm temperatures and high humidity. It's common for these plants to drop leaves; don't worry! They can fully grow back from their corms.
